just read your first steps with mac. first: forget the finder; it’s ok for basic working, i find it to be even better than windows explorer and more customizable but in the long run it kinda slows you down.
i have been searching for some alternative or at least some enhancements for the finder, and i tried a looot of apps, add-ons and stuff.
eventually i found something that is nearly perfect. it’s called quicksilver and can be seen as a partial replacement for finder. it’s quite difficult to explain this app and i found the learning curve a bit steep, but as soon as you get the curve, you won’t be able to function without it. it’s really fabulous and the possibilities are literally infinite (since you can write your own scripts for it). try it out and don’t give up (as i did at first) if you don’t understand it from the very beginning. it’s a bit unconventional but really useful.
cheers
