I thought to myself this morning — I want an Eggo Waffle. You see, I have never had one, but have always been interested. There were some in the freezer that Robert had bought, removed from their packaging because of his space-saving ways.

Naturally I found the need to prepare an Eggo Waffle to the correct specifications as I wanted to make sure that I was having the correct Eggo experience (microwave, toast, pan fry, what?). To my surprise the feast was ruined (credit for the title), and breakfast was not magically delicious.

Dear Kellogg’s,

I thought to myself this morning — I want an Eggo Waffle. You see, I have never had one, but have always been interested. There were some in the freezer that Robert had bought, removed from their packaging because of his space-saving ways.

However I could NOT find any directions on how to actually make an Eggo Waffle. So I thought to myself — Hey, Eggo’s web site might have this pertinent and useful information! To my surprise I found that the Eggo web site was designed like shit.

No, I cannot enjoy an Eggo waffle for the first time because I simply do not know the proper instructions. This information is surprisingly absent from a web site. Instead I have useless information thrust into my vision in a flash animated piece of shit.

My breakfast appetite is ruined. I am no longer interested in having an Eggo Waffle because your shitty web site design team put me off.

This might be humorous to you or your team, but this is no laughing matter to me. I think I will have some General Mills Cheerios instead.

Love mradcliffe

You might be amused to find my difficulty with preparing an Eggo Waffle. In my search for deliciousness I did come across one link to enjoy Eggo Waffles, which I admit did look interesting. However I wanted to pursue slightly more official instructions. And I did receive an update from Kellogg’s though it came into my inbox a bit too late in the day for breakfast.

Update: Kellogg’s responded! I bet I made someone’s day.

Thank you for contacting us regarding Eggo® website.

The feedback you provided on our website is valuable to us. We will pass along your comments to our advertising and marketing departments. As you know, things change quickly on the web, so we hope you will visit us again to see what’s new!

We hope you give our product another opportunity. For future information you can contact us toll free at 1-800-962-1413 so one of our service representatives could answer your questions.

I am quite surprised that Eggo has a toll free number. So whomever comes across this post — if you need to learn “How-To Make an Eggo Waffle” because you’ve never had one before you can call 1-800-962-1413.

Operators are standing by to assist you with your breakfast endeavor.

The final lesson to be learned is that I am grumpy in the mornings. Never get between a Radcliffe and his breakfast.

This was mostly remedied by the iPhoto Mailer Patcher, but it left out non-applescript aware applications because, after all, iPhoto uses applescript to interface with them. One of the more notable omissions is Thunderbird.

Finally, this void has also been filled, via the iPhoto Thunderbird Bridge. It’s still quite primitive, but all the basics are there for iPhoto-Thunderbird integration.

If you’re an iPhoto/Thunderbird user, give it a whirl.

The DVD was a huge success and we all became rock stars. In our decadent complacency, we never got around to making a website for our one-hit-wonder.

Flash forward to August 2007. project ruori has just completed its first “real” album, and close friend and talented acoustic guitarist/singer/songwriter Tarvis has just cranked out not one, but two new records of his own. In record time.

So, how to pump all this new material into the stream of commerce, send it off into the world, get it out there?

After finishing the cover art and sending the whole bundle off to be manufactured, and heading to Burgerville to celebrate, we (now wearing our Kosada hats) immediately got to work on the new website and released it less than 48 hours later.

Dear reader, we give you:

After working my way through most of the migration to Mac, I came across a common problem for multi-platform developers like myself. The problem is the creation and use of applications targeted for another platform. For example, using a Linux compiler to develop Windows applications, or using an OS X compiler to develop Linux applications.

This is a fairly common problem, and also fairly simple to solve. The resultant tool kit is referred to as a Cross-Compiler, because is crosses platforms, and it compiles source code into target code. For Linux, my cross-compiler of choice was created and maintained by SDL, and can be found here. This allowed me to write Windows programs without needing to actually run Windows. Since both Linux and Windows were my complete set of frequented platforms, that sufficed. Now, however, one more platform has entered the mix.

Fortunately, ECN/IRCCyN provides a cross-compiler, and it works just like other cross-compilers I’ve used. The only quirk with this one is that it installs to
/usr/local/
, which is “correct” but not so much for OS X. I mentioned this attribute in Part 1 of Malus Sylvestris Migration.

This tool is basically a port of GCC to OS X, but which generates code for Win32. If you’re familiar with GCC, you’re good to go. Just be sure to look in the right place for the program.

In your innocence, you may not know how much Fedora Core 6, theoretically only days from the final release version, could possibly suck.

Your tender mind may not be able to imagine the bizarre fatal errors that crashed anaconda (Fedora’s installer) in graphical mode every freaking time we tried to set up the network preferences.

And your unspoiled eyes may never have seen the likes of the errors we got attempting to use the yum repository even after the ostensibly successful installation of Fedora Core 6 in text mode.

But you must try, little children, to wrap your minds around the sheer nameless horror we experienced when we decided, after nearly 10 straight hours of attempting to set up Fedora Core 6, that a total reinstall with Fedora Core 5 was the only way out of the bottomless abyss of night into which we had fallen.

It started out innocently enough, but we quickly discovered that the grapical route was blocked. In text mode, we encountered strange, unfamiliar signs and guides, but still did not suspect that we had stepped outside of time.

[ Fedora Core 6 Welcome Screen ]

OK.

The next thing we could remember, we were already emerging from the depts of that murky abyss. However faint our hearts may have been, we knew that such evil threatened to envelop all that softpixel holds dear.

So we began intalling FC5.

[ Fedora Core 5 Welcome Screen ]

This was our last chance to turn back. At least this time it gave us the option.

We have no photographs of the horrors that ensued.

The camera must have fallen from our trembling hands at some point during our rocky descent into the very bowels of Linux.

All we have is the strange, barely-human scrawlings of our feverish minds that we put on our TWiki during our imprisonment in the abyss:

Notes on installing qmail-rocks (and a few other things) on Fedora Core 5.
